Why does my computer stall when I open up a program?
View Q&A Detail | Add Comment (members only!)

Your computer may not have enough speed to run the program or you have too many softwares opened using shared resources.  On your keyboard, click on Control+Alt+Delete at the same time.  This will bring up your Windows Task Manager and click on the Performance tab to view your CPU usage.  100% is the max so do the math.  You can also click on the Processes tab and it will tell you what software is using all the CPU.  The System Idle Process should utilize the majority of the CPU usage if there is mininal activity on your computer.  Please don't end the process unless you are absolutely sure it's not being used.

A possibility is that your internet provider reset your dynamic IP address or you just lost connection for some reason.  You'll need to unplug your modem and/or router and wait about 20 seconds.  Plug your modem and/or router back and try it again.  If it still doesn't work, restart your computer.

Another possibility is that your internet provider may be experiencing an outage and only your provider can help you with this.

View Q&A Detail | Add Comment (members only!)
It a good practice to have your computer plugged into a surge protector so if lightening strikes, the surge protector will protect it.  If your computer is not plugged into a surge protector, then shut down your computer and unplug it until the weather is better.
